Hi Everyone! Welcome to the official home page of Panther Robotics, based out of Bonney Lake WA.
What on earth is this site about? Here’s the deal:
-
Who are we? We’re a team of about 25
kids at a high school near Puyallup, WA. We spend about 20 hours a week, early
January through the middle of February, building a robot. We spend a few hours
a week during the rest of the year honing our skills.
-
Why a robot? Well, robots have to be
engineered, built and programmed (in that order). We could be engineering or
building just about anything, but robots drive around and do things. They’re
cooler then, say, conveyer belts. (Not that we have anything against conveyer
belts.)
-
Why would even consider doing something
like this? We create an environment where it’s okay to be smarter then the
adults in the room. We are expected to be smarter, faster, stronger and better
then anyone that has come before us. The surprise is that we become what is
expected of us.
-
Are we competitive? Heck yes. Our team
is very competitive. We are not competitive with each other, however. We have
learned that backstabbing does nothing useful. Therefore, we lift up, enrich
and help each other. It’s the smart thing to do.
-
We are an FRC team. In English, that
means that there are a lot of other teams like us that do the same thing, and
we’re part of that group. Towards the end of February, we meet together and
compete against each other. The acronym FRC means FIRST Robotics Competition.
FIRST is an educational program. It was STEM before STEM was cool.
(See http://firstwa.org/ for more info on this point.)
-
In the long run, our job is to build engineers by building robots.
-
Where does our funding come from? Well,
there’s a link at the bottom of this page called “Sponsors”. That goes to a
list of our major resource providers. Are you interested in sponsoring us? Let
us know! Email us at mailto:pantherteamtech@gmail.com.
If you have any questions, please use our email (mailto:pantherteamtech@gmail.com)
or use one of our social media handles, which can be found on our Connect page.
Please respect and enjoy this site!
